    Foundation Degree in Railway Engineering

You could either be looking to get into the rail industry, or you could already be working for a railway organisation. Either way, a Foundation Degree in Railway Engineering is a unique opportunity to be paid while you develop the engineering skills that will open the door to the huge array of careers within industry today.

Launched in September 2004, this specially designed two-year degree course offers the option of studying either full or part-time. It has been developed by Sheffield Hallam University in partnership with Network Rail and other organisations in the rail industry, including London Underground, Jarvis, Grant Rail and Balfour Beatty.

    Fast track

The course is aimed at fast-tracking those with an interest in railway engineering. It combines theory with practical experience and will give you the chance to work on some of the biggest projects in the industry. And the very fact that so many organisations are prepared to provide paid work placements is a clear indication of their intention to offer long-term opportunities.

Applications are welcome from men and women of all ages, and the course has already attracted many mature students. Network Rail will be recruiting and sponsoring 40 full-time students to start in September 2005, and 36 part-time students to start in January 2006.

Take a look to see whether you are best suited to full or part-time study.
